An Ideal Sleep

Some people like to sleep all day long, and some others can sleep for only a few hours and be seemingly fine for the day. But is that good for your body? Not really, because our bodies are built to sleep for a certain amount of time and just don’t work as well if we differ too much from it. Problems like a lack of productivity and focus, or increased irritability arise from sleeping too long or too little, so it’s best to get close to the recommended sleep times. Mattress Mathew wants to help with these issues in the ways we can, but identifying the issue is the first step.

As we get older, we need less sleep to keep us alert and sober. Adults need only half as much as a baby does, and we need less as we age into seniority. 7-9 hours is the recommended time for sleep but what that really means is around 8 hours of quality sleep.

As we sleep we go through 4 stages, and if any part of that cycle is disturbed we have to go back to the beginning to start it over again. Our first stage is when our breathing and heart rate is slowly decreasing and a little noise could wake you up. The second stage is when your heart rate and breathing are even slower and it takes a little more to disturb you. The third and most important stage is deep sleep. Your heart rate and breathing are at their lowest in the night and it takes a lot to get you up. The last stage before you wake is your REM sleep where you dream. Your heart rate and breathing are close to waking levels but you’re still unconscious, though easy to wake.

Our bodies need to stay in the deep sleep cycle for most of the night so your body can get your ideal amount of time to replenish your energy and be ready for the next day. Mattress Mathew’s beds help you do so by being so comfy and supportive that you breeze through the first two stages to deep sleep and wake naturally after your body is done its rest.
